Euconnus (Rhomboconnus) cordobanus sp. n.

Holotype: Mexico (Veracruz State): ♂, four labels: “Cordoba / Mex. Ver. / Dr.A.Fenyes ” [creamy white, printed], “A. FENYES / Collection” [yellow, printed], small green star, “ EUCONNUS / (RHOMBOCONNUS) / cordobanus m. / P. Jałoszyński, 2020 / HOLOTYPUS ” [red, printed] (MHNG).

Diagnosis. Head in male slender, with short and nearly straight posterior margin of vertex; tempora nearly straight and strongly narrowing posterad; pronotum subconical with rounded sides, broadest slightly behind middle, with sharply marked transverse antebasal groove distinctly deepened at each end and with short but distinct sublateral carinae; dorsum sparsely setose; antennomeres VII–X distinctly elongate (VII the longest); aedeagus with ventral plate in distal half nearly rod-like, parallel-sided and narrow, slightly curved; endophallus with long and broad sclerites, of which the longest is pointed at apex, with strongly asymmetrical distal portion.

Description. Body of male (Fig. 7) moderately strongly convex, elongate, with moderately long and slender appendages, BL 2.58 mm; cuticle glossy, moderately dark brown with reddish hue, vestiture slightly lighter than cuticle.

Head (Fig. 14) slender, strongly narrowing posteriorly, broadest at eyes, HL 0.60 mm, HW 0.43 mm; vertex and frons confluent, together evenly convex, posterior margin of vertex short and nearly straight; tempora nearly straight, nearly 5 × as long as eyes in dorsal view; supraantennal tubercles barely marked; eyes moderately large, finely faceted and weakly projecting from silhouette of head. Punctures on vertex and frons fine and inconspicuous; setae relatively numerous, conspicuously short and barely discernible under magnification 100 ×, recumbent, additionally frons with a few long and suberect setae, and posterior portion of each temple with several dense thick setae. Antennae slender and relatively long, AnL 1.40 mm; all antennomeres except III distinctly to strongly elongate, III about as long as broad, XI nearly as long as IX–X together, 2.4 × as long as broad; antennomeres X and XI slightly flattened.

Pronotum (Fig. 14) in dorsal view approximately subconical with relatively broad anterior margin and rounded sides, broadest slightly behind middle and weakly narrowing anterad, PL 0.58 mm, PW 0.56 mm; anterior and posterior margins nearly straight, base with sharply marked transverse groove distinctly deepened at each end, and with short and distinct sublateral carinae extending from posterior margin to the level of transverse groove. Punctures inconspicuous; disc covered with similar setae as those on head, additionally sides with long and dense thick bristles.

Elytra together suboval, broadest near middle, EL 1.40 mm, EW 1.03 mm, EI 1.37; apices separately rounded. Punctures on elytral disc slightly more distinct than those on head and pronotum but superficial and inconspicuous; vestiture virtually absent (indiscernible under magnification 100 ×).

Legs moderately long and slender; unmodified.

Aedeagus (Figs 44–48) stout, AeL 0.48 mm, in ventral view drop-shaped with apical region rapidly narrowed; endophallus with relatively broad complex of sclerites (Fig. 48), of which the longest is strongly asymmetrical in apical region, with oblique emargination so deep that it has two pointed apices; parameres slender, each with four long apical and subapical setae.

Female. Unknown.

Distribution. Southern Mexico.

Etymology. After Cordoba.

Remarks. This species is relatively unremarkable, but the strongly elongate head with nearly straight tempora, combined with nearly asetose body, all antennomeres except III elongate, and the shape of the apical portion of the longest endophallic sclerite (so deeply emarginate that with two asymmetrically situated apices) allow for unambiguous identification.
