Redescription. Male (Figs. 13–16). Integument mostly black; anteclypeus and anterior area of labrum reddishbrown; about basal third of antennomere IV, about basal quarter of antennomere VI, and basal 3/4 of antennomere VIII yellowish-brown (extreme base of IV blackish).

Head. Frons somewhat finely, abundantly punctate; with brownish pubescence not obscuring integument, with long, erect dark setae interspersed. Vertex and area behind eyes with sculpturing, pubescence and erect setae as on frons (punctures somewhat confluent on some areas), except area behind lower eye lobes close to prothorax that is nearly smooth and glabrous. Genae somewhat finely, sparsely punctate; with very short brownish pubescence not obscuring integument, slightly longer close to eye, with long, erect dark setae interspersed, except glabrous narrow apex. Wide central area of postclypeus finely punctate close to frons, nearly smooth close to anteclypeus, with brownish pubescence, especially laterally, and long, erect brownish setae interspersed, almost glabrous close to anteclypeus; sides smooth, glabrous. Labrum coplanar with anteclypeus at posterior half, oblique at anterior half; finely punctate on central area, nearly smooth close to anteclypeus and anterior margin; with brownish pubescence not obscuring integument on punctate area, glabrous remaining surface; with long, erect, somewhat abundant golden setae on punctate area, and fringe of short golden setae on anterior margin. Antennal tubercles with sculpturing, pubescence and setae as on frons (punctures nearly absent close to apex and absent toward posterior area). Gulamentum smooth, glabrous except for narrow anterior area very finely, abundantly punctate, with brownish pubescence. Distance between upper eye lobes 0.28 times length of scape (0.24 times distance between outer margins of eyes); in frontal view, distance between lower eye lobes 0.71 times length of scape (0.60 times distance between outer margins of eyes). Antennae 1.8 times elytral length, reaching elytral apex at basal quarter of antennomere VIII; with yellowish-white pubescence not obscuring integument (whiter depending on light intensity). Scape, pedicel, and antennomeres III–VII with long, erect setae ventrally, yellowish on scape, both, yellowish and brown on pedicel and antennomeres; antennomere III sinuous. Antennal formula (ratio) based on length of antennomere III: scape = 0.68; pedicel = 0.17; IV = 0.73; V = 0.45; VI = 0.41; VII = 0.38; VIII = 0.33; IX = 0.30; X = 0.27; XI = 0.29.

Thorax. Prothorax slightly longer than wide. Pronotum coarsely, densely punctate throughout; with yellowish-brown pubescence not obscuring integument (appearing to be grayish-white depending on light intensity), with long, erect dark setae interspersed. Sides of prothorax with sculpturing and pubescence as on pronotum. Prosternum coarsely punctate (punctures sparser than on pronotum); pubescence as on pronotum, but less conspicuous. Mesoventrite with very short and sparse yellowish-brown pubescence centrally, slightly longer, more conspicuous laterally (more grayish-white depending on light intensity). Mesanepisternum and mesepimeron with short yellowish-brown pubescence not obscuring integument (more grayish-white depending on light intensity). Metanepisternum and metaventrite with abundant yellowish-brown pubescence (distinctly more conspicuous than on sides of ventral surface of mesothorax); metaventrite coarsely, somewhat abundantly punctate, especially laterally. Scutellum with yellowish brown pubescence not obscuring integument. Elytra. Very coarsely, abundantly punctate (punctures slightly sparser on posterior third); with very short grayish-white pubescence not obscuring integument, with abundant, irregular maculae with dense yellowish-brown pubescence; with somewhat long, erect dark setae throughout, slightly more abundant posteriorly. Legs. Femora with yellowish-brown pubescence, abundant but not obscuring integument, with a few long, erect setae of same color ventrally. Tibiae with yellowish-brown pubescence not obscuring integument, bristly toward apex ventrally, with long, erect, abundant setae of same color dorsally. Metatarsomere I about as long as II–III together.

Abdomen. Ventrites with yellowish-brown pubescence not obscuring integument (more grayish white depending on light intensity), with long, erect setae of same color interspersed, more abundant on V. Apex of ventrite V truncate.

Female (Figs. 17–18). Body slightly stouter than male. Antennae 1.6 times elytral length, reaching elytral apex near apex of antennomere VIII. Elytral pubescence slightly more conspicuous between yellowish-brown maculae. Apex of ventrite V slightly rounded.

Variation. Integument mostly dark brown or brown; anteclypeus and anterior area of labrum dark reddishbrown; antennomere VIII entirely yellowish-brown; tibiae with dark reddish-brown central ring; tarsomeres V dark reddish-brown; short pubescence on elytra yellowish-brown; apex of ventrite V in male very slightly rounded.

Dimensions in mm (male/ female). Total length, 6.40–7.00/6.90–8.20; prothoracic length, 1.30–1.40/1.40– 1.65; anterior prothoracic width, 1.30–1.35/1.35–1.55; posterior prothoracic width, 1.35–1.45/1.50–1.85; widest prothoracic width (between apices of lateral tubercles), 1.60–1.75/1.85–2.30; humeral width, 2.20–2.35/2.55–3.10; elytral length, 4.45–4.75/4.75–5.90.

(MZSP). PANA- MA, Chiriquí: Santa Clara, Finca Hartmann Ojo de Agua, 8º51’41”N / 82º44’36”W, 1500 m, 1 male, 11–14.IV.2016, B.T. Raber col. (MZSP ex DHCO); Santa Clara, Finca Hartmann Ojo de Agua Lodge, 8.8615ºN / 82.7431ºW, 1500 m, 1 male, 14–16.V.2016, E.G. Riley col. (DHCO).

Remarks. Parestola zapotensis closely resembles Mimestola imitatrix Breuning, 1940, especially the shape and sculpturing of the pronotum, shape of the lateral spine of the prothorax, antennomere III being slightly sinuous, and the color of antennomeres IV, VI, and VIII. However, it differs by the absence of erect setae on the elytra, which are present in Parestola.
