ERGONOMIC ASSESSMENT OF AN ACTIVE ORTHOSIS FOR PARKINSON'S DISEASE PATIENTS
Description
Parkinson’s disease is a disease which affects more than 6 million people in the world, making it the second most spread neurodegenerative disease, easily beaten by Alzheimer and its 48 million victims.
During the last seven years my professor, Mr. Andrade, studied the problem. Without seeking to cure the disease itself, for it is not the matter of his research, he considered the idea to improve the patient’s daily life by developing a device to help them regain amplitude while performing movements of the wrist. Indeed, muscular rigidity caused by the disease prevents parkinsonian from moving freely their joints.
The wrist being a direct access to the hand, and therefore, to our sourronding environment, focusing on it sure is a lead that deserves to be studied.
