Book Review: Tom Boland, The Spectacle of Critique: From Philosophy to Cacophony
Description
We seem to be witnessing a certain renaissance of critique and critical discourse in the contemporary times of political and socio-cultural backlash associated with names such as Trump, Bolsonaro, Brexit, etc. Whereas the 90s and earlier 2000s were characterized by “post-critique” and even declarations of the “end” or “death of critique”, today critical discourses about patriarchy, capitalism and ecologically harmful practices are in high demand again, filling talk-shows, newspapers, social media feeds and – more and more – the streets with political protests.
