Description

The global network of repositories can now look back on a history of twenty years of publishing and disseminating scientific publications and related material. During this time a lot of developments happened with respect to technical optimizations and the extension of contents. It is crucial to observe and analyze this evolution to draw conclusions for the further development of repositories. The basis for such an analysis are data. The OAI service provider BASE (Bielefeld Academic Search Engine) has started indexing repositories in 2004 and has collected metadata on repositories as well. This presentation will introduce the main features for a planned repository monitoring system. The data has been collected since 2004 and covers basic repository metadata as well as publication metadata of a repository. These data allow a deep analysis for many indicators in different logical combinations. This paper will sketch the system approach and the integration of data science techniques. It describes the aimed monitoring system and will show first results.
