Slowness is best

  • 1. Universidad de Valladolid

Description

In today’s world everything happens fast. That speed gives rise to the collective desire to impress our acts with an increasing and faster pace, and, at the same time, to an inevitable background of unease. Great classics of Western culture, from Michel de Montaigne to Italo Calvino, have reflected on the harmful effects that speed causes in our societies, in the perception of the things of the world and even in ourselves. This writing collects their opinions. From the examination of these a conclusion is clear: we must choose slowness. In slowness we find the privileged way of relating with others, to ensure the continuity of our existence and to preserve the world in the best conditions.
