OHS practitioners' role in implementation of national OHS programmes

  • 1. Centre for Ergonomics, Occupational Safety and Health, School of Public Health Massey University New Zealand

Description

This paper examines occupational health and safety (OHS) practitioners' role in implementation of national OHS programmes using an insurance incentive scheme based on levy reduction for organisations that meet an audit standard for OHS management system. Two hundred and three OHS practitioners responded to an internet based questionnaire about their tasks related to implementation of the scheme and the reasons for their organisations to join. OHS policies and procedures and influencing stakeholders to engage in OHS were a big part of their role. One of the main reasons for the organisations to join the scheme was the levy reduction.
