Salmoneus ortmanni — Ríos & Carvacho 1983: 462; Ríos 1992: 7 [not S. ortmanni (Rankin, 1898)].
Material examined. 1 ovigerous specimen (cl ~ 2.7 mm), LACM CR1980-183.1, Costa Rica, Playa Tarcoles, intertidal, leg. R.C. Brusca, 22.02.1980.

Colouration. Uniformly orange-yellow with reddish gonads or eggs (Anker & Lazarus 2015).
Type locality. Bahía Málaga, Pacific coast of Colombia.
Distribution. Eastern Pacific: Colombia (Bahía Málaga) and Costa Rica (Nicoya Gulf).
Ecology. Intertidal and very shallow subtidal; mixed rocky-sandy or rocky-muddy shores close to mudflats and/or mangroves; typically in muddy water under larger rocks.
Remarks. Salmoneus alvarezi was previously known only from its type locality in Bahía Málaga, Colombia, as well as Punta Morales in the northern part of the Gulf of Nicoya, Costa Rica (Anker & Lazarus 2015). It is now also reported from Playa Tarcoles, near the famous Río Tarcoles estuary, at the entrance to the Gulf of Nicoya. So far, there have been no records of S. alvarezi from the Pacific coast of Panama, where its presence is more than likely, or north of Costa Rica.
