The first census of stellar clusters in the peripheries of the Magellanic Clouds
Description
The YMCA (Yes, Magellanic Clouds Again) project is a deep g',i' photometric survey carried out with the VLT Survey Telescope (VST) and devoted to the study of the outskirts the Magellanic System. In the context of this survey, we aim at devising new candidate stellar clusters in order to complete the census of these objects till the outermost regions of the Clouds. We adopted a specific overdensity search technique coupled with a visual inspection of the color-magnitude diagrams (CMDs) to select the best candidates and estimate their ages. To date, we have analyzed a region of several sq. deg. in the outskirts of the Clouds, finding tens bona fide cluster candidates. We use these objects together with literature information to derive insights on the formation and interaction history of the Clouds.
