Description

The Clinical Engineering comes as a subarea of Biomedical Engineering that incorporates the appropriate quality parameters at all stages of the medical-hospital technology life cycle. Therefore, it plays a fundamental role in the preparation of the technical specifications of the equipment to be acquired, besides being involved in the training of its operators and technicians, ensuring expertise in the correct handling of the equipment; the definition and monitoring of performance indicators, and the implementation of actions to mitigate and resolve nonconformities during the technology utilization phase. This study was conducted at a federal university hospital in the state of Minas Gerais. The objective of the study was to identify possible problems that may lead to misuse of 130 hospital electric beds, due to the high number of corrective maintenance of these equipments in a period of one year. For this, all corrective and preventive maintenance work orders were analyzed during this period. Nine hospital sectors were analyzed, two of which had nearly 59% of corrective maintenance work orders from the overall total of corrective maintenance work orders for this type of equipment. Coincidentally these sectors submitted work orders for misuse as well. Therefore, this study demonstrated that through the analysis of indicators, it is possible to identify in the sectors the need to update equipment training, avoiding its stoppage and consequently the prohibition of hospital beds due to lack of equipment.
