Description

This paper presents a quantitative study related to the distribution of mammograms and equipments, aiming to contribute to the discussion about the planning and acquisition of equipment for the detection of breast cancer, considering the real demands of the population in the Distrito Federal and other Federation Units. The study has been caried trough the usage of a literature review methodology called TEMAC (2017), using databases such as Web of Science and Google Scholar. From this, a data collection was performed for statistical calculations in databases such as INCA (National Institute of Cancer José Alencar Gomes da Silva), IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) and SISMAMA (Breast Cancer Information System), in the period of 2018 and using two other methodologies of analysis, verifying that Brazil has more than enough mammography equipments to meet the population demand, but the number of exams performed in 2018 was much lower than the estimated 70% coverage, reaching only 25,9%. In addition, the usage of equipment capacity in all States was less than 25% of their maximum capacity. Lastly, it is observed the need for a better distribution of the equipment and its capacity, as well as the insertion of public policies to publicize the importance of the mammography examination, with the objective of increasing its performance.
