Pratiche documentarie a Milano in età carolingia
Creators
Description
The aim of the essay is to illustrate a group of Milanese brevia dating from the Carolingian period, a type of document that is almost absent in other areas of the Kingdom. These writings described and recorded the methods of taking investiture of goods acquired (firstly by the monastery of Sant'Ambrogio) through a sale or donation, in order to establish and make public its legitimacy. Practice provided for the presentation and public reading, on site, of the documents that accompanied the transfer of the right of ownership. These writings should be considered against the backdrop of the normative changes occuring in the same period (from the reign of Charles III to Guido of Spoleto) and to the documentary and procedural standardization of the ostensio chartae.
