Sistem Pertanian Berkelanjutan Pada Lahan Dataran Tinggi di Kawasan Hulu DAS Deli Sumatera Utara

DAS Deli is one of the critical watershed in province of North Sumatra that require treatment as a rehabilitation target location. The livelihoods of most people in the highlands of the region upstream Deli is farming. They cultivate farmland by 82% mainly in villages in the upstream Deli watershed. This situation raises vulnerability to erosion and flooding in downstream areas where land management is not accompanied by efforts to rehabilitate the land and soil and water conservation. This paper discusses one effort to develop agroecological based on sustainable agriculture that should be emphasized in maintaining and improving agricultural production. The explanation is included four dimensions of social, economic, resource as an asset in the farming production, increase the role of the community, and the program of action/implementation that realistic. Farming in upland land management based on agroecological appropriate and targeted to provide economic benefits and protecting the land and the environment simultaneously. Thus sustainable agricultural development can be achieved.
