This article provides a short historical overview of the treatment of fungal diseases of the head with emphasis on epilation. This epilation was initially done with the ‘pikkap’, a barbaric and feared method. Shortly after the discovery of the X-ray radiation, radiotherapeutic treatment was preferred. This article explains why and how this happened and the consequences of the therapy. It is striking that people look back with mixed feelings nowaday
