Una gramática escolar filosófica: reflexiones sobre el Curso gradual de gramática castellana de Isaac Larraín (1881)
Description
This paper pretends to examine the Curso gradual de gramática castellana (1881 [21882, 31884]) by Isaac Larraín, with the aim of contributing to the historiographic exploration of the school grammatical tradition produced in Argentina during the second half of the 19th century. Like many grammars written to serve as pedagogical instruments for Spanish courses, Isaac Larraín's is a heterogeneous work, built upon a school tradition that preceded it and with extracts and pieces from different linguistic theories that are incorporated and reformulated according to the pedagogical objectives that public education assumes. In particular, the analysis shows in this case a prominent presence of categories coming from the French philosophical grammar that, in many cases, are recast with concepts from Bello’s grammar. At the same time, and in contrast to the tendency manifested in other contemporary works of the corpus, in certain passages it is revealed a critical reception of the academic doctrine, which, nevertheless, shows itself as an inescapable source.
