Description
The article analyzes metaphors as a means of nature description in M. Kotsyubynskyi’s Short Stories of Moldavian Cycle. ("For the common good", "On Faith", "The Witch"). Metaphor is a means of figurative language that is embodied in the author's intent by using analogies and various connotative meanings. Being presented in these short stories as metaphorical units, space objects are various as for the lexical and semantic types. It is found that the author prefers anthropomorphic images, which are implemented using metaphorical units of different grammatical and semantic structure. Personification is due to the transfer of physiological and psychological properties of people to the nature objects. Being intensified with new details, such metaphors become signs of the original imagery in M. Kotsyubynskyi’s texts. Metaphors researching to specify the grammatical structure demonstrates the efficiency of verb and substantive metaphors with the prevalence of the verb. Among the verb metaphors a special attention is paid to ones with the meaning of "movement" to create a dynamic and vivd landscapes.
