Analysis Procedure of Affordance Conditions for User-Product Interaction

Description

Affordance concept has become one of important principles in facilitating user-product interaction and it has different definitions in design. In this paper, affordances are regarded as the -ability of a product. For design, designers should purposely make specific affordances for user-product interaction perceptible. For this reason, the purpose of this paper is to explore how affordances could be presented in different conditions, perceptible, hidden and false and further propose an analysis procedure of affordance condition for user-product interaction. The analysis procedure of affordance condition contains four steps described as follows: 1) Task analysis, 2) Affordance analysis, 3) Perceptual information analysis and 4) Affordance-information analysis. Moreover, in the procedure, a way of analyzing product parts’ required affordances for user-product interaction is suggested.
