Description
While cooling efficiency of data centers is traditionally evaluated using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations, thermal results are often delivered as static reports and isolated engineering files, which significantly limits their accessibility for operators, facility teams, and decision makers. In this study, we developed FluxTwin-Core as an open-source, web-based platform to transform data center thermal models into interactive digital twins. The platform enables users to explore three-dimensional airflow and temperature fields and to evaluate cooling efficiency using various thermal Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) without heavy software installation or deep engineering expertise. Developed within EU-funded HEATWISE project, FluxTwin-Core has been demonstrated across four pilot data centers, including a university data center, a building-integrated edge data center, an industrial factory data center, and a high-performance computing (HPC) facility. This paper also describes platform motivation, system architecture, implementation workflow, KPI integration, and deployment insights from real-world applications. The results demonstrate how a web-based thermal visualization can improve thermal management of data centers.
