D7.1 Policy measures towards the promotion of the European – and non-European – Animation Industry Ecosystem
Description
This report presents the results of ANIMA MUNDI Deliverable D7.1, developed under Work Package 7 (Promotion and Partnerships). It provides a comparative cross-national mapping of policy measures supporting the international promotion of the European Animation Industry Ecosystem (EAIE), while also examining selected non-European policy frameworks for comparison. Drawing on desk research and stakeholder interviews, the report analyses European Union policies, national and regional initiatives, funding mechanisms, export strategies, international cooperation schemes and cultural diplomacy instruments that contribute to the visibility and international circulation of animation. It covers nine EU Member States (Austria, Belgium, Czechia, Estonia, France, Italy, Poland, Slovenia and Spain) and eight non-EU countries (Brazil, Canada, Japan, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, South Africa, South Korea and the United States). The report also explores how animation policies intersect with broader policy priorities, including the digital and green transitions, gender equality and social inclusion.
By identifying existing strengths, best practices and persistent policy gaps, this deliverable provides an evidence base for future ANIMA MUNDI policy recommendations aimed at strengthening the international competitiveness, visibility and long-term sustainability of the European animation ecosystem.
