Didactic Unit and Educational Program on Marine Litter for Use with the NETTAG+ Video Game "Guardians of the Sea"

This file contains didactic units designed to support teachers and educators in delivering classroom activities on marine litter and ghost gear through the use of educational video games (10.5281/zenodo.20555301 or https://nettagplus.eu/resources/#video-games). The material is intended for school pupils aged 10–13 years and promotes ocean literacy, environmental awareness, and conservation-oriented attitudes.

The didactic unit is based on a participatory, cooperative, and practical learning approach, guiding students through three educational video games that simulate real-world environmental challenges, including beach litter collection, marine species rescue from entanglement, and retrieval of lost fishing gear. These activities are complemented by guided discussion, teamwork, and reflection exercises to foster critical thinking and solution-oriented learning.

This resource has been developed within the framework of the NETTAG+ project — Preventing, Avoiding and Mitigating Environmental Impacts of Fishing Gear and Associated Marine Litter

The didactic unit was developed by the EqualSea Lab at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), under the CRETUS research centre, as part of the project’s educational and outreach activities.
