Description
Deliverable 2.1 of the START project is dedicated primarily to identifying potentially suitable old mine sites for supplying raw materials, in particular tetrahedrite-tennantite, to be used in p-type semiconductor thermoelements.
This task has been carried out by the five European Geological Survey institutions represented in the START partnership, from Austria, Germany, Portugal, Slovakia and Spain. Additionally, members of ASGMI’s Mining Environmental Liabilities Expert Group (GEPAM), who have experience in old mine site sampling, characterisation, and evaluation of abandoned mining wastes, have been asked to contribute. In this aspect Colombia has also identified one potentially suitable mine site. Based on the volume of sulphides, the presence and content of tetrahedrite-tennantite and due to accessibility and logistical issues, these surveys have located suitable mine waste sites in the various countries,
