Description

Regulation (EU) 2025/2455 establishes a Common Data Platform on chemicals and tasks the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) with centralising data on properties, uses, exposure, risks, alternatives, and sustainability. While the Regulation signals an ambition for a more open and FAIR-aligned system drawing on broader data sources than existing ECHA databases, it remains unclear whether and how researchers will be able to contribute. Many critical details, especially the scope of accepted data and contributor eligibility, are deferred to the forthcoming governance framework and implementation plan. Here, we outline how the platform can be designed to function as an effective tool for identifying and substituting PMT/vPvM substances.
