Solidarity and Struggle: Resisting 'Anti-Gender' Politics

Abstract (English)

Whether you are an activist, educator, researcher, student, or simply curious, this course offers critical tools to understand and challenge the ongoing transnational mobilisations against gender and sexual rights. This course will help you understand the dynamics of ‘anti-gender’ politics/discourses/moblisations as well as queer, trans, feminist, and LGBTIQ+ intersectional resistances against it.

You will investigate the tangible effects of ‘anti-gender’ politics on everyday lives, including its role in contributing to migration and displacement. The course will highlight the resistance efforts of queer, trans, feminist, and LGBTIQ+ communities across Europe - namely Belarus, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, EU-level action, and a transnational case of people living in exile in the EU due to ‘anti-gender’ politics - showcasing their strategies and resilience in the face of adversity.

By the end of this course, you will be able to identify and assess real-world examples of both 'anti-gender' campaigns and the resistances from queer, trans, feminist, and LGBTIQ+ communities. You will critically analyse the impact of 'anti-gender' movements on social inequalities across different European contexts, moving beyond the simplistic divide between Western and Eastern Europe. Through a combination of theoretical frameworks and practical toolkits, this course will equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary to engage in effective resistance against ‘anti-gender’ politics/mobilisation.
