Description

The SPEARHEAD SolO/HET catalogue includes:

  • 174 electron (E>1 MeV)
  • 13 electron (E=[5.9930 - 18.8300] MeV)
  • 149 proton (E~8 MeV)
  • 76 proton (E~25 MeV)
  • 49 proton (E~50 MeV)

Solar Energetic Particle (SEP) events. A detailed description of the catalogue's contents - divided semantically into sections - follows:

Section 1: Event identification

  • Column 1 (Catalogue entry number): Sequential identifier of the event within the catalogue.

  • Column 2 (Event identifier): Unique event identifier following the catalogue naming convention.

Section 2: Particles

Particle measurements are provided for two electron energy channels (>1 MeV and [5.993–18.83] MeV) and three proton energy channels (~8, ~25, and ~50 MeV). For each energy channel, the same set of parameters is reported, describing the onset, peak intensity, and fluence of the SEP event.

For all particle channels, the following column structure is used:

  • Onset Time [UT]: Estimated onset time of the particle increase, calculated using the sigma method with a threshold of 2 sigma.

  • Onset Resolution [min]: Temporal resolution of the data used for onset determination.

  • Onset Viewing: Viewing sector used for the onset determination.

  • Onset Error [min]: Estimated uncertainty of the onset time determination, calculated by subtracting the earlier found onset from the latest found onset out of various combinations of data temporal resolutions and viewing sectors.

  • Peak Time [UT]: Time of maximum measured particle intensity.

  • Peak Intensity [1/(cm² sr s MeV)]: Maximum differential particle intensity measured during the event.

  • Peak Resolution [min]: Temporal resolution of the data used for determining the peak intensity.

  • Peak Viewing: Viewing sector used for the peak intensity determination.

  • Fluence [1/(cm² sr MeV)]: Event-integrated particle fluence over the selected integration interval.

  • Fluence Start Time [UT]: Start time of the fluence integration interval.

  • Fluence End Time [UT]: End time of the fluence integration interval.

  • Fluence Resolution [min]: Temporal resolution used in the fluence calculation.

  • Fluence Viewing: Viewing sector used for the fluence calculation.

Section 2.1: HET / Electrons

  • Columns 3–15: Electron measurements at E>1 MeV.

  • Columns 16–28: Electron measurements at E=[5.993–18.83] MeV.

Section 2.2: HET / Protons

  • Columns 29–41: Proton measurements at E~8 MeV.

  • Columns 42–54: Proton measurements at E~25 MeV.

  • Columns 55–67: Proton measurements at E~50 MeV.

Section 2.3: Abundances SIS

For the abundance indicators (3He-rich and Fe-rich), the following values are used:

  • Y: Event identified as enriched in the corresponding element.

  • N: No elemental enrichment identified.

  • Y?: Possible enrichment, but classification remains uncertain.

  • N?: No clear enrichment detected, although the classification remains uncertain.

  • BG: No significant particle increase above background levels was detected for the corresponding element.

  • Column 68 (3He-rich): Indicator identifying events with enhanced 3He abundance.

  • Column 69 (Fe-rich): Indicator identifying events with enhanced Fe abundance.
