This article discusses the challenges and opportunities of pro-social collaborative play in extended reality (XR). Building on insights from the workshop “Making a Real Connection: Pro-Social Collaborative Play in Extended Realities—Trends, Challenges and Potentials,” it highlights how XR can support shared, playful experiences while also raising design challenges around social interaction, collaboration, accessibility, and meaningful real-world connection. The article identifies important design principles for future XR applications focused on collaborative and pro-social play.
