Mopo Baltic case study VRE data
Description
This dataset provides simulated hourly wind and solar PV generation time series used in the Mopo project for the Baltic case study. The modeling framework follows https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.17950647 (validated in Nayak et al. (2025)).
The file "MOPO_Baltic_polygons" shows the simulated onshore regions on a map. The offshore regions are the same as in the related pan-European data (see the Zenodo link above).
The following VRE technologies are simulated:
- Solar PV: 3 simulated PV technologies.
- Offshore wind: 4 specific technologies (2 bottom‑fixed (FB) and 2 floating (FO)) (there is no existing offshore wind in the Baltic countries).
- Onshore wind: 9 specific technologies plus an “existing” configuration.
“Existing” runs represent installations characteristic of 2020 in the analyzed regions, while “specific technology” runs represent possible future VRE installations. See https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.17950647 for more details about the simulated VRE technologies and regions.
Compared to the pan-European runs in the Mopo project, this upload considers a higher geographical resolution for the Baltic countries. In addition, a 5 min resolution wind run is carried out to demonstrate sub-hourly simulation capabilities (see folder "WindPower_5min_run"). The 5 min resolution run considers the following technologies: Existing wind installations (only onshore for the Baltic countries) and the SP370 HH 155 offshore and SP277 HH100 onshore wind technolgy to represent future installations. The 5 min resolition is obtained by extending the hourly resolution wind speed time series (see Nayak et al. (2025)) with the stochastic simulation methdology shown in (Murcia Leon, 2021).
