It is worth noting that in silico oncology in its form of in silico radiation oncology served as the concrete paradigm for the formal foundation of in silico medicine as a distinct discipline in 2002 through the publication Stamatakos et al., "In silico radiation oncology: combining novel simulation algorithms with current visualization techniques," in Proceedings of the IEEE, vol. 90, no. 11, pp. 1764-1777, Nov. 2002, doi: 10.1109/JPROC.2002.804685,
https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/1046955). The open access accepted  manuscript of the paper is available at https://zenodo.org/records/18317236 . Proceedings of the IEEE is a top-tier, peer-reviewed technology journal. More information on the emergence of in silico medicine and digital (virtual) twins in oncology and beyond is available in  Stamatakos, G. (2026). History of the emergence of in silico medicine. Zenodo.
