Oral History Interview - Maria de los Ángeles Gavilanes
Authors/Creators
Description
In this life-history interview, Maria de los Ángeles Gavilanes Fernández — a lifelong
resident of Santa Mariña de Augas Santas — reflects on her experiences of village life,
migration to Switzerland and the Basque Country, and her enduring devotion to Santa
Mariña and the Santa da Pedra. Her testimony explores intergenerational faith practices,
community rituals, novenas, and processions, as well as the symbolic role of the sacred
springs. The narrative offers a deeply personal view of rural Galician religiosity and the
persistence of devotional traditions across migration and time. It contributes valuable
insights to the anthropology of religion, gender, and memory within the AntCom project
framework.
