Description

Talk by Jan Pels TORWASH at the online event organised by the PROSPER project, held on 27 November 2025, on "Bioplastics recycling, Policy context, Economy and Technologies".

The PROSPER, MoeBIOS, and ReBioCycle projects are researching the technologies and economics of bioplastic recycling. The issue is fundamental: if the use of bioplastics is to grow (as heralded by the draft EU Bioeconomy Strategy), then, apart from organic recycling, sorting and mechanical/chemical recycling capacity must grow too to ensure circularity. In this webinar, we explore these themes, examining the first results from PROSPER, MoeBIOS, and ReBioCycle after 1 year, the new policy framework, and the costs and benefits of bioplastic sorting and recycling.
