Description

This document is a deliverable of the WORM Project, funded under the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under the grant agreement No 101135392.

This document presents the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the handover process of an EMT/field hospital. The handover process should begin as early as possible in the deployment planning stage, considering the deployment environment's contextual factors and the stakeholders who need to be involved. In a humanitarian operation, there are always risks and opportunities for both the HO and the deployment context.

Standardisation of processes is an established manner of running operations across the sector. The roles and responsibilities of the executing team must be clear to everyone involved, as well as to the receiving organization and/or stakeholders. There are multiple processes involved in the donation and handover, as outlined in this SOP. In the case of an EMT/field hospital, there are intricacies to consider, including sensitive items and materials, such as pharmaceuticals. This makes the SOP a valuable tool for HOs.

Using this SOP to execute an EMT deployment helps reduce waste and, therefore, improve environmental sustainability. The document outlines procedures for reuse, repair and refurbishment in EMT handover.
