Description

This dataset is a collection of marine photosynthesis-irradiance parameters, namely the initial slope and assimilation number, gathered globally from 1958 to 2017. These parameters describe the linear response of primary production under low light conditions and the rate of primary production at saturating light intensities, respectively, and are crucial for any model of watercolumn primary production. The parameters are obtained using inverse modelling approach applied to depth-resolved 14C primary productivity measurements, chlorophyll a vertical concentration profiles as proxies to biomass, attenuation coefficients and noon irradiance and daylight variables. The set successfully retrieved more than 4100 pairs of photosynthesis-irradiance parameters, and, as such, doubles the amount of publicly-available parameters, which opens the avenue for novel research direction of primary production.

Table of contents (English)

In order of appearance, the columns are:

ID of profile

Date (YYYY-MM-DD) of profile

Latitude (decimal degree) of profile

Longitude (decimal degree) of profile

Assimilation number (mg C (mg Chl)^-1 h^-1)

Inital slope (mg C (mg Chl)^-1 (W m^-2 )^-1 h^-1

Inital slope FLAG (0 if inital slope is missing, 0.5 if initial slope is greater than 0.5 and 1 otherwise)
