The Tribal PFAS Working Group's winter webinar featured Dr. Hans Peter Arp discussing trifluoracetic acid (TFA). The group, formed in 2020, includes members from various tribal partnerships and meets monthly to address PFAS issues. Dr. Arp highlighted TFA's rapid increase in environmental concentrations, particularly in groundwater and plants, due to its formation from hydrofluorocarbons used in refrigerants and pesticides. He noted that TFA is difficult to remove from water using current technologies, and its accumulation in human blood is concerning. Dr. Arp emphasized the need for better management and treatment strategies to mitigate TFA's environmental and health impacts.
