Primary vein segmentation in grapevine leaves

  • 1. EDMO icon Michigan State University

Description

Similar to a previous vein segmentaiton model (https://zenodo.org/records/17741713) that isolates all major veins, this model attempts to segment only the five major primary veins of a grapevine leaf (midvein, and the two distal and two proximal lateral veins) using a UNet model with the RGB segmented leaf mask and its associated Euler Characteristic Transform (ECT). All necessary data and outputs are included in this upload except for the folder of pre-segmented RGBA images of leaves segmented in the alpha channel called "FINAL_MASKS" that can be downloaded at https://zenodo.org/records/16883403 and placed into the main project folder here. Please note that 24,911 RGB leaf masks (segmented on a black background) and associated vein masks that are used for prediction found in ./data are not aligned to original FINAL_MASKS leaves, as derived in https://zenodo.org/records/17741713.

The following is a summary showing the relationship of this model to others:

Segmentation of RGB leaf masks

Segmentation of full vein mask

Segmentation of primary veins

Segmentation of midvein

Gaussian heatmap estimation of petiolar junction coordinate

Segmentation of midvein, distal, and proximal lobes
