Coping Strategies for Creative Non-Mainstream Filmmakers and Code of Best Practices

Deliverable 4.2 - Coping Strategies for Creative Non-Mainstream Filmmakers and Codes of best Practices addresses the legal challenges faced by European cinema professionals and presents the key research outputs of the Work Package 4 of the REBOOT project, which concentrates on the strategies of European cinema professionals. The deliverable consists of a comprehensive review of the EU policy documents, the scholarly literature to map the current legal challenges experienced by European cinema professionals, especially those identify as ‘non-mainstream’ filmmakers, as well as the EU legislative framework to identify the potential normative solutions to such legal hurdles. Built upon this scholarly effort, the deliverable provides a ‘Code of Best Practices’ (CoBPs) directed at cinema professionals and designed to facilitate their creative endeavours. The CoBPs presented herein constitute a comprehensive set of guidelines collaboratively developed by legal scholars and cinema professionals, resulting from theoretical and qualitative research. Consequently, the CoBPs serve as a valuable tool for the industry, outlining the legal challenges frequently encountered by market actors or cinema professionals involved in the international distribution and promotion of European cinematographic content. Thus, the CoBPs herein offer legally sound, experience-based, and practical solutions to address these challenges.
