Description

Effective management of secondary raw materials is central to achieving Europe’s green and digital transitions. The Horizon Europe–funded FutuRaM project supports the EU Critical Raw Materials Act by developing harmonized, scenario-based datasets quantifying the theoretical availability and recoverability of secondary and critical raw materials from six major waste streams: waste batteries, end-of-life vehicles, waste electrical and electronic equipment, construction and demolition waste (including wind turbines), slags and ashes, and mining waste. Building on the ProSUM framework, FutuRaM applies a six-step modelling approach covering stock and flow estimation, material composition, transfer coefficients, scenario projections, recovery modelling, and uncertainty analysis to generate consistent data for the EU27+4 countries up to 2050. Under this work, detailed datasets were developed for each waste stream, forming the core of the updated FutuRaM Urban Mine Platform, which enables data visualization, analysis, and download.

This deliverable D4.1 contains the overall methodology applied to estimate the six waste streams datasets. For each of the six waste streams, supplementary information is also available in separate documents. These provide more detail on how the FutuRaM stock and flow model, and the recovery model were applied to the respective waste stream.
