D7.2 Capture Ready Waste to Energy Plants

Description

The revised BREF WI (Best Available Technologies REFerence document for Waste Incineration), entered into force in December 2023. It does not address CCS but may very well affect its possible implementation. To ensure a smooth implementation of CCS, it is crucial to ensure that BREF compliance anticipates (or at least considers) CCS requirements and needs.

This deliverable presents and discusses BAT-AELs with a perspective on possible impact on downstream solvent-based CO2 capture process. Combining extensive data on WtE flue gas composition and dynamics together with available literature on CCS tests at WtE plants, this deliverable presents techno-economic analysis of the impact of interface between the APC and the solvent-based CO2 capture process. Furthermore, the deliverable provides recommendations and considerations when integrating a post-combustion CO2 capture process in capture-ready WtE plant.
