Description

The file contains the catalogue of adaptation measures for a climate-proof built environment (ADAPT4BE_measures), developed as part of the MULTICLIMACT project. The catalogue is organized according to the categorization of Key Type Measures (KTMs) established by the European Environment Agency. Of the five KTMs, only KTM C (Physical and Technological) and KTM D (Nature-based solutions and Ecosystem-based approaches), along with their respective Sub-KTMs, have been considered. They include the types of solutions planned for the four MULTICLIMACT demonstration sites, encompassing all the materials, technologies, and digital solutions included in the project.

The file presents the second version of the catalogue (v2.0), developed during the first two phases of the project. It includes 52 adaptation measures divided as follows: 23 measures for KTM C1 (Grey options), 7 measures for KTM C2 (Technological options), 12 measures for KTM D1 (Green options), and 10 measures for KTM D2 (Blue options). The file consists of a preliminary sheet to guide the users through the document, followed by additional sheets listing the adaptation measures and related information, and all references adopted in the study. The contents are presented in an easy-to-read form for expert and non-expert users and comprise the following information: identification data (KTM, Sub-KTM, ID, Name, Lines of action), general features (Description, Climate-related hazards, Ecosystem processes - only for KTM D -, Functions, Benefits, Co-benefits, Scales of intervention), and contribution to resilience, based on multiple dimensions. The resilience dimensions (with their associated key criteria for qualitative evaluation) are: Physical (Effectiveness, Robustness), Human health, well-being, and quality of life (Social outcomes, Equity), Technical (Flexibility), Economic (Economic efficiency), Environmental (Environmental outcomes, Mitigative capacity), and Organizational (Timescale, Feasibility, Synergies).

The objective of the catalogue is not to provide a detailed or technical description of measures, but to guide the decision-makers and all users, encouraging them to: i) select and prioritise complex measures with multiple benefits; ii) avoid implementing adaptation measures cthat could unnecessarily increase emissions; iii) deepen their knowledge about adaptation measures and their effects by reviewing the scientific literature and/or carrying out a quali-quantitative assessment of their performance. The list of measures included in the catalogue is not exhaustive, but it is indicative of the most widespread and recommended measures for the built environment to consider in planning and developing climate-proofing interventions.
