Description

This Strategic Roadmap adresses circularity and market potential from wood waste in the current context in Europe with a focus on fibreboard recycling. Out of almost 50 million tonnes of wood waste generated in the EU, only about 40% are recycled – mostly into particleboard – while nearly all the remaining wood waste is used for energy recovery.

In this context, the Strategic Roadmap pinpoints challenges, drivers and barriers and sets out research and policy recommendations to support the transition from a linear to a circular economy. It targets stakeholders such as policy makers, industry and research and aims to contribute to the ongoing discussion on circular wood use showcasing current developments and solutions. These propositions align closely with the goals of the Bioeconomy Strategy and the forthcoming EU Circular Economy Act.

The Roadmap is a collective effort of the EcoReFibre project consortium and has been co-created by experts from industry and academia aiming to further stimulate the dialogue and provide systemic analysis and solutions for a wood-based circular economy.
