ABSTRACT

In this article, we summarize the emergence of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education and explain why the traditional education system prevents a country from advancing in global arenas such as the economy, defense, technology, and innovation. We discuss the impact of STEM education—and consequently, STEM professions—on the growth, development, and strengthening of national economies within the global economy.This paper investigates the economic returns of STEM education and the global influence of the STEM workforce. The importance of STEM education in relation to economic growth and the future trends of technological innovation in national economies is emphasized. Integrating this form of education expands employment opportunities and helps cultivate individuals with independent and creative thinking skills, thereby contributing to both social progress and economic development. The article explains the impact of STEM education on the labor force, global trends in STEM employment, and the contributions of individuals holding STEM degrees to the economy. It also examines the current educational infrastructure and policy frameworks to assess the long-term economic benefits of investing in STEM education.The objectives of this study are to gain insights into the economic context of STEM education and to support research and policy development in this field. Therefore, the relationship between the economic benefits of STEM education and labor market requirements is viewed as a critical factor for countries striving to meet sustainable development goals.
