ASREN and AFLI GAF Webinar | Enabling Open Science with DataCite: Insights from the Arab World
Description
Mohamad Mostafa presented at the Arab States Research and Education Network (ASREN) and Arab Federation for Libraries and Information (AFLI) webinar, held on 25 October 2025, as part of their Global Access Fund (GAF) outreach project.
In his presentation, titled “Enabling Open Science with DataCite: Insights from the Arab World,” Mohamad highlighted the role of DataCite in supporting open research practices across the region. He emphasized the importance of the 2021 UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science as a guiding framework for advancing openness, transparency, and collaboration in research. Mohamad also discussed the crucial role of Arab research libraries in driving this transition—serving as enablers of open infrastructure, capacity building, and policy alignment. He shared three practical use cases from DataCite consortia in the Middle East, including the United Arab Emirates and Tunisia, illustrating how institutions are leveraging DataCite DOIs to enhance research visibility, collaboration, and accessibility within the Arab world.
