D1.5 Strategy for addressing the Ethics, M18

The DTO-BioFlow project aims to increase the flow of relevant biodiversity data into the EU DTO. The project is organised around five main topics, one per Work Package (WP) these being: identification and creation of an inventory of “sleeping” biodiversity data, as well as mobilisation of data from data providers (WP2); development of sustained data flows of new biodiversity data types (including genomic data, plankton imaging data, biologging and passive acoustic data, among others, in WP3); demonstration of an end-to-end approach for biodiversity monitoring developing policy relevant-use cases (WP4); realisation of the data products developed in all the other WPs into the DTO infrastructure, ensuring interoperability and scalability (WP5); and communicating, disseminating and bringing the work developed into the relevant user communities (WP6). Due to the work developed within each of these components, it was foreseen that an ethics strategy should be developed to identify potential issues and the procedures to follow up for each activity where ethical considerations are needed. 

A first ‘Strategy for addressing the Ethics’ (D1.5) was developed by the Ethics Advisor of the project (Dr. Barbier), based on the issues identified in the Grant Agreement and supported by meetings with the individual WPs. A revision of the strategy is due on months 18 and 42.
