Description

This deliverable presents areas of clinical challenge, elicited through a series of engagement meetings to explore the aspects of diagnosis, stratification, care planning and monitoring of HCM patients that respond to clinical needs; challenges that clinicians face for which SMASH-HCM advanced digital solutions could help improve their decision-making accuracy. The heart of this deliverable presents the consensus areas of clinical challenge identified by HCM clinicians. These highlight diagnostic certainty dilemmas in athletes, the extent to which monitoring burdens should be imposed on asymptomatic patients, how non-HCM clinicians can determine when to refer a patient to an HCM specialist, the added complexity of making a diagnosis in patients with hypertension, risk stratification particularly for arrhythmias, which lifestyle changes can impact risk, the role of routine (digital) monitoring in early detection of deterioration and complications, and how quality of life including unmet needs may best be assessed. For each of these areas, the challenge is described followed by a list of functional requirements, and a high-level initial response from the software and
decision support engineers.
