Description
Latife Akyüz delivered a presentation "Exiles from Turkey and Northern Kurdistan: Facing Anti-Gender Politics and Building Resistance in Europe" as part of the “Not far, but beyond: New chronicles crossing borders” workshop held at GEW in Berlin, October 25-26, 2024.
Abstract
The workshop focused on how displacement reshapes intellectual knowledge production, creating new subjectivities and addressing agencies of displaced intellectuals from Turkey. This output, delivered under Work Package 2 of the RESIST project (Effects of, and Resistances to ‘Anti-Gender’ Mobilisations Across Europe), focused on the presentation "Exiles from Turkey and Northern Kurdistan: Facing Anti-Gender Politics and Building Resistance in Europe." The presentation explored how displaced intellectuals and activists confront anti-gender mobilizations, highlighting their strategies for building resistance in the context of exile. It emphasized the transformative potential of displacement in creating new forms of intellectual subjectivity and examined the vulnerabilities, challenges, and agency of exiled communities in fostering anti-fascist, feminist, and anti-racist responses across Europe.
