Description

1. Introduction

The dataset compiles Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Assessment (PSHA) results from Kaviris et al. (2022) and Kaviris et al. (2024). Both studies use the classical Cornell–McGuire approach (Cornell, 1988McGuire, 1976).

Kaviris et al. (2022) carry out a Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Assessment (PSHA) for the Western Gulf of Corinth (WGoC). Results are presented in the form of Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA, cm/s²) and Peak Ground Velocity (PGV, cm/s) for 475 and 950-year return period. Moreover, the study presents PGA hazard curves (cm/s²) and Uniform Hazard Spectra (UHS, cm/s²) for the major towns Aigion, Patras, and Nafpaktos. In a subsequent study, Kaviris et al. (2024) adopt the same conceptual approach for the example of the Central Ionian Islands (CIIs), i.e. Cephalonia and Ithaca, and generate analogous output for the townships of Lixouri, Argostoli, and Vathi.

2. Files

The dataset contains PGA, PGV, UHS and hazard curve data from both studies in easily parsable CSV formats. Following, the summary of each file and its field description is presented.

2.1 Western Gulf of Corinth

2.1.1 wgoc_intensity_measurement_levels.csv

Contains gridded seismic hazard simulation output for WGoC. Each row is a geographic point given in WGS84 coordinates, with estimated Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA) and Peak Ground Velocity (PGV) for two return periods.

Field description:
  • lat: latitude in decimal degrees (WGS84).
  • lon: longitude in decimal degrees (WGS84).
  • pga475_cm_per_s2: Peak Ground Acceleration for a 475‑year return period, in cm/s².
  • pga950_cm_per_s2: Peak Ground Acceleration for a 950‑year return period, in cm/s².
  • pgv475_cm_per_s: Peak Ground Velocity for a 475‑year return period, in cm/s.
  • pgv950_cm_per_s: Peak Ground Velocity for a 950‑year return period, in cm/s.
2.1.2 wgoc_hazard_curves.csv

Contains the PGA hazard curves for Aigion, Nafpaktos and Patras.

Field description:
  • lat: latitude in decimal degrees (WGS84).
  • lon: longitude in decimal degrees (WGS84).
  • poe_T50: Probability of Exceedance for 50 years
  • PGA_cm_per_s2: Peak Ground Acceleration in cm/s².
2.1.3 wgoc_uhs.csv

Contains the UHS for Aigion, Nafpaktos and Patras.

Field description:
  • lat: latitude in decimal degrees (WGS84).
  • lon: longitude in decimal degrees (WGS84).
  • period_s: Period in s.
  • Sa_cm_per_s2: Spectral Acceleration in cm/s².

2.2 Central Ionian Islands

2.2.1 cii_intensity_measurement_levels.csv
