Description

Experimental dataset for the paper "Wormhole formation in fluid-driven granular flow". Data from the graphical figures of the paper are uploaded in CSV files and .mat for particle image velocimetry. Supplementary videos are also included to illustrate certain flow behaviours of the system. Text documents in each folder contain information relating to the files.

The experimental system is a vertically oriented Hele-Shaw cell with plate gap 0.05 cm, width 20 cm and height 30 cm. The cell was filled with water and glass beads of various diameters. The mixture was withdrawn at a controlled flow rate from an outlet on the front plate near the bottom of the cell. Various types of flow behaviour were observed and quantified including wormholes, viscous fingers, classical silo flow, and porous flow.
