Open resilience: Building infrastructure together (ORBIT) landscape scan
Description
Funding for open infrastructure (OI) in the domains of scholarly communication and open science is often one-off, project-based, and institutionally siloed, which can discourage long-term planning and shared responsibility. There is little coordinated investment strategy in this ecosystem, despite overlapping dependencies. This can foster a survivalist mindset among projects and discourage long-term collaboration.
This landscape scan investigates recent strategic ideation and activity among US-based academic library consortia with respect to their investment in and adoption of OI. The purpose of this analysis is to identify areas of alignment, activity, and opportunity for collective action in support of open scholarly infrastructure. This work was undertaken by Invest in Open Infrastructure (IOI) as part of its broader mission to facilitate sustainable, community-led infrastructure for open knowledge.
