Mapping evidence on the screening/diagnosis of primary open angle glaucoma

Primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) is a significant global health concern and is one of the leading causes of irreversible blindness. However, this condition can be effectively managed through appropriate treatment if it is diagnosed early, before damage occurs to the optic nerve head. For this reason, early detection of POAG is crucial in preventing vision loss. Screening for this condition is especially important at the primary healthcare level, where minimal equipment is needed. This necessity motivated the undertaking of this scoping review, which aimed to explore existing research on screening for POAG, identify the personnel and equipment required for accurate screening and diagnosis, and examine the barriers and challenges faced in screening, particularly at the primary healthcare level.
