How to increase yields with organic matter in the Sahel?
Description
This poster, produced in collaboration with scientists and farmers, presents research findings on how organic amendments influence crop yields. It highlights practices such as cut-and-drop pruning and mulching of local shrubs and trees, the application of manure, and composting, all of which improve soil fertility, structure, and moisture retention. In contrast, overreliance on mineral fertilizers can degrade soils, reducing long-term productivity. The research findings were discussed and refined in an interactive process with farmers, ensuring that the poster reflects both scientific evidence and local knowledge to support more resilient farming systems.
This poster is designed to spark discussions with farmers about the potential of organic and local soil amendments in the Sahel to build more resilient and productive farming systems.
