Segmented Electromagnetic Propulsor: A Motor for Propellers with Frontal Pole Commutation
Creators
Description
This paper presents a Segmented Electromagnetic Propulsor (SEP) designed for propeller-based UAV applications.
The SEP features multiple radially oriented frontal stator poles that are sequentially energized according to rotor position, allowing flexible torque shaping with a lightweight rotor.
We develop a compact electromagnetic and dynamic model, implement a simple advance-angle current control, and perform numerical simulations under realistic parameters.
The results demonstrate achievable torque, speed profiles, and efficiency, highlighting thermal constraints and management strategies.
The work provides a framework for lightweight high-performance motor design and guides experimental prototyping.
