Effect of Occupational Health and Safety on Employee Performance in Furniture Manufacturing Firms: Mediating Role of Job Satisfaction
Authors/Creators
Description
Concern over occupational health and occupational safety has grown since the start of the global economic crisis and the current increase in labor conflicts. The role that Ghana's furniture manufacturing companies have played in the country's socioeconomic growth cannot be understated. Nevertheless, these advantages are not without drawbacks, such as the regular industrial accidents that result in worker fatalities and also impact employee and organizational performance. As a result, furniture manufacturing companies must protect the health and safety of their employees. In order to better understand the function that job satisfaction plays as a mediator, this study looks at how occupational health and safety affects the performance of Ghanaian furniture manufacturing workers. The quantitative approach's descriptive research methodology was used in this study, and 385 employees in the sample answered the survey. To analyze the data, multiple standard regression, means, and standard deviations were employed. According to the study, worker performance is significantly improved by occupational health and safety. Nonetheless, the mediation impact of work satisfaction was minimal and statistically insignificant. Therefore, the study came to the conclusion that, according to Heinrich Domino's idea, more work was needed from management of furniture manufacturing companies than from employees to maintain occupational safety and health in the industry. It was suggested that workers' health and safety be given top priority by the management of furniture manufacturing enterprises in the industry. By adopting additional measures to improve organizational health and safety conditions, businesses may use the study's findings to lower work-related stress and enhance working conditions. This article was derived from the thesis titled "Effect of Occupational Health and Safety through Job Satisfaction."
